I don't know about price but, I CAN tell you the Symbol scanners are VERY well tested during production. ![]()

Just a word of warning- one of our Sales guys wanted to borrow one of my 2D scanners to scan badges at a trade show for contacts.
Turns out for this show (I forget which one) the critical contact information was encoded so no useful information was gained.
I think that is why some shows rent theirs out.
No sure if this applies to your needs or usage conditions.

Thanks AK2DM,
Fortunately for this show, the data is openly coded in the QR code. I was in contact with the people who handle the conference badges and they sent me a sample of the code. When I scanned it with my phone, I could see how I could easily parse out the data.
Now for other shows, that may not be the case. I'll have to find out as they come up and modify my code to handle it assuming the data is not encrypted for them.

Thank you for all the help and recommendations. I went and purchased a Zebra (or Symbol or Motorola) 4308-SR. It seems to be the newer version that is replacing the 4208. I'll be getting it Monday the 19th and can start playing with it.

UPDATE:
So far I'm happy with it. It helped to download the full manual from the website so I could do things like set the volume lower. (Someone came by my office and complained how loud it was right at the very moment I was searching the PDF for the instructions on how to adjust the volume.)
It worked right out of the box as a keyboard wedge. But I needed to download some drivers in order to get it to be recognized in Windows as a Com port so that I could use it in my program the way I intended.
