Reading buffered input from multiple counters

I have a pci-6601 board connected to a pci-mio-16E-4. My goal is to have a photon counter connected to each board and read data from both, simultaneously if possible. To start i am just trying to read one counter at a time. I have been able to read data going directly to the MIO but not data going through the 6601 card. I tried using daqmx assist. Are there example vi's i should look at? Also, how does the MIO board differentiate between the two sets of data coming in? Thanks.

I am assuming that you will use the PCI-6601 to perform event counting. Applicable NI-DAQmx examples are available in the following location:
