Read byte to lan

Hi,

I would like to read the number of bytes sent and received on a specific lan connection? I would like to create a simple network monitor.
but I could not find anything.
Can you help me?
I tried to parse the netstat-e but the bytes are not specific to a connection, and totaly bytes are not congruent with connection status windows.
