Hi, I need your help! I have to do a program with labview (V4-01) to control a DC Power Supply (from HP). I have a cable (male-male) to connect the power supply to PC and i have a DB-9 in DC Power Supply and a DB-25 in PC. If you know the solution for this aplication or some ideas send me for santiago@alumni.dee.uc.pt Thanks.
Most Serial communication uses only pin 2(send) and 3(recieve) on either 25 or 9 pin configuration. So you should be able to just get the proper converter/gender changers for the conncetion. A word of advice if your just getting statred with RS-232 get yourself a "break-out box" from a cable supplier. It will let you know if your hardware is sending any kind of signal or is completely silent. Also make sure your 2&3 pins are either crossed or uncrossed, otherwise known a modem and null-modem, inside the cable. You'll have to read the docs or play with it to determine which configuration is required. The breakout box will help. Brian Wells Space Power Institute.
