Programming tape drive in LabView

Labview 5.1, WinNT 4.0
I want to programmaticlly control a HP tape drive to do backup in labview.
Does anyone has experience on this? What to use, activeX?

We did a tape drive about 3-4 years ago.
At that time the tape drive still had a DOS command line available. Using the correct sytax we used the SysExec ( the one that does DOS stuff) to do what we needed.
