Problem with LabView 6i

Hello,

when I start the program CuteFTP, my pc always wants to run the setup-file
from LabView. Very strange. Does somebody know what it is, and how I can
manage this...?

Steven,

I have had some problems running Cute FTP. I didn't have the same problem you had (mine was catastrophic). I discovered that the reason was the Cute FTP overwrites some dlls that are needed by LabVIEW. This is a major problem, the source of which is actually the nature of Windows. I found I was able to get running again by reinstalling LabVIEW after Cute FTP.

My advice to you is to use one computer (or bootup) for LabVIEW use, and another completely different setup for All other operations.

Windows 2000 did not solve this problem, because I have lost my National Instruments services after I was upgraded (read that shafted) to Windows 2000.

If anyone out there knows a better solution to this issue, please let us all know. If for one am rea
dy to just abandon windows altogher. It has been more headaches than it is worth. The only way to run successfully is to NEVER run anything but Microsoft software. Even then, I have problems with things like Visual Source Safe. Hmmm, almost sounds like a monopoly to me...

Again, if anyone knows how to solve such problems, please fill us all in on your magical knowledge.

Thanks

What do you mean by the above? I have a Win2K machine at home that I
periodically use for Labview development and it works fine.

You should re-install Labview and NI-DAQ under Win2K- when you install a new
OS you shouldn't assume all the software will run correctly without a
reinstall- but after that all should be fine. As a "light" Win2K user I'd be
interested in knowing of any problems that persist.

What recent experience do you have with the Mac and Linux platforms as a
base for Labview? Linux certainly is more difficult than Windows to get
everything up and running in. Took me a week to get Cyrus (an advanced mail
subsystem) to compile and install.

I've found NT4 and 2K to be reasonably reliable. The main complaint here has
been about third party software overwriting system files. Big deal, there's
not a great deal any machine can do to prevent this; you generally need
administrator/root access to install new software packages on either Windows
or Linux, and as such anything you run during the installation has the
potential to shaft the machine.
