Problem with Adam Modules

Hi!

I want to run a LabView Program with Adam Module4018M and 4520 by a
notebook. The program
was written for 2 Adam4018 and one Interface Adam4520 with 7 chanals, and
now
it needs only 4 chanals.

I set up the adress of this 4018M under Advantech Driver
for NT ( I use NT), but the program can not get all the data from it. I
checked the part of configuration program,
and I found that it got only the data of one chanal by
DecNum1000, by the other settings it shows always
"Unable to receive from COM1 xH" (x is 6 by DevNum1000 or 1 by 0).

And I checked the cables of Adam Modules too, and
there were voltage.

I am hurried to do it, but I could not find the information
of this Adam, I don't know why the DevNum sometimes
is 0 and
sometimes 1000 and so on,could someone give me some suggestions and
tell me where I can find the
information about it?

Thanks a lot!

I used ADAM 4000 series modules with LabVIEW some time ago and I had no problems. By what you are describing you have two ADAM 4018 modules. The first one will have the softare address 0 and the second 1000. These are the channel numbers that you must use in the labVIEW software. I suggest that you use the examples shipped with the adam driver for LabVIEW (check in the Advantech Web Site that you have the latest).

To check if the communication line is OK you can check if the leds in the ADAM modules are flashing. The ADAM 4520 flashes when it is comunicating and the 4018 modules flashes when they are accessed. If you try to access one of the modules and it does not flash, it is not communicating.

One other thing that you can not forget to do is to change the defa
ult address of the ADAM modules. The default addres is 0 I think and you must change them for 1 and 2 for example and leave the address 0 for unconfigured modules. You can do this with the ADAM Utility. You can also use this utility to check the communications. These addresses must match the one you have configured in the Advantech Driver for NT.

Are you using the ADAM OPC connectivity module to communicate with the
4520? OPC is the communication protocol for the 4520 through the
RS-232 link. Yes you can probably talk to it from theAdvantech setup
gizmo, but to do data collection you must have an OPC server running.

If you have the OPC server running, there are some example OPC vi's
that will help you. Do a search in help.
