Problem alarm dsc module

I am new to the DSC module. I am making an user interface and I want to have an alarmlist where alarms are shown and the user have to acknowledge them. I also want to logg information concerning alarms and historical information about different variables. I understand that DSC is logging information in citadel database...but is it possible to save this information in files that can be opened from the user interface? I have used shared variables in my program and one of them(temperatur), I have put alarm limits to(high and low), but where will I be able to see these alarms? And how do I show to the user that there has been an alarm situation in the system?

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Welcome to DSC.

To begin with I would recommend that you look at the examples located in examples/lvdsc/Alarms...these will give you some really good information.

To be a bit more immediately informative, you should consider using the Alarm & Event Display from the Alarm Controls sub-palette of the DSC front-panel palette.  This will place an activeX control on your front panel that can be used to both view and acknowledge alarms.  The control can be configured to see alarms from multiple processes.

It is possible to send both numeric data and alarm data to non-Citadel files if that is your need but there are other mechanisms available to read directly from CItadel and display it on your front panel.  If you want to keep a running display of the value data I recommend using the "Historical Trend" Express VI which can be used to graph your data.  If you just want to show the most recent data you can just drag a variable from the project explorer window onto the front panel.  If you prefer to show the alarm data rather than the current value you can either use the "Read Alarm" VI from the Alarms & Events sub-palette of the DSC diagram palette to read the current alarm information of a specific variable or the "Alarm & Event Query" VI from the Historical sub-palette to read the logged alarm information.

Robert

Thank you for your reply!

I have been looking at several examples, but can't find any good ones. I am using shared variables and added properties as alarming and logging to them. The alarming is functioning, and the data is probably stored in citadel, but how to do I find it and look at it. The best way would be to get it directly from my main front panel. What about DIADEM, is that an easy way to generate reports? I would really appreciate it if anyone had any tips (tutorials from NI, examples...).

Thanks
