Preventing User Access to Windows 10 while running a LabVIEW Application

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I was aware of a method to prevent Windows from launching the explorer when starting, and staring a LV app instead.

But that was a long ago, when XP was still fresh !

Is there any similar method / trick to do the same thing with Windows 10 ?

My customer doesn't want the operators to access Windows and the LabVIEW application should launch at computer start.

Any idea ?

Do a search for "Windows 10 Kiosk Mode".

Hi Steve,

Thanks !

Seems to do the trick !

I still have to check the shortcuts are disable (mainly to block access to the task manager), but that's a great solution!

Hi Luis,

A shortcut pointing on the LV exe was added in the startup folder.

So windows starts it when the session opens.

Then the kiosk mode just only removes all Windows components so you cannot see any OS menu and bars, etc...

doing this "shortcut pointing", anybody can 'Ctrl-Alt-Del' and access to entire windows (task Manager, then 'File>Run New Task> explorer.exe').

but using the Kiosk Mode, when you do 'Ctrl-Alt-Del' it logoff the Kiosk User, the only way to access the PC is using the Administrator User and password.

my problem is when I'm creating the Kiosk User, it is asking for the application to run, but I can not add my own LabView app.exe

Hi Luis,

I must admit that I don't remember how we ended up tweaking this.

And the person who did this left the company. Maybe ending up with Windows registry might be a solution.

but now trying to find a better and more secure solution

thank you, I will post here If I can make it work using Windows Kiosk
