Post Install Instructions and Create Start Menu Shortcuts in LabVIEW NXG

Solved!
Go to solution

I'm currently working on an application in LabVIEW NXG 4.0 and I'm wondering if I have missed something or, if not, how I might accomplish what I'm looking to do.

I currently have my application built, so that was a success.  What I can't find currently is how to create the Windows Start Menu shortcut when the installer has completed.  Is this a feature that isn't available yet in NXG?

If it isn't available, is there a way that someone would suggest that I could make it happen?  One way I could see that happening is with a post install instruction, but that doesn't appear to be available either.  Would someone be able to verify that?

I'm hoping that I'm just missing the tab or menu item somewhere for post or pre install actions.  If they are for a future release, is that scheduled for the next release of NXG, or further out?

I appreciate any insight.

Regards,

Erich

I'm just hoping that everyone had been hard at work on the LabVIEW community addition, but I'm still looking to see if someone from NI might be able to answer my questions.

Erich

Schliepe,

You best bet is probably using call to powershell. There are instructions for it in the NI Package Builder help here. (If there is an issue with the link, I blame NI.com being down for me at this moment.)

Thanks for checking.  I also opened a support ticket for this and it turns out it's not available yet, but should be in the future.  The one thing Levi, my support engineer, suggested was using the NI Package Builder, which has worked mostly.  Had to open a different support ticket when we found what appears to be a bug, but the Package Builder solutions seems to work for adding the ability to run post install steps and add shortcuts to applications built using NXG.
