PocketPC run-time menu separator

I'm using LV PocketPC 8.0.1  When defining the run-time menu with a separator, LabVIEW for PocketPC uses letters such as (A), (B), (C) for the three separator instead of using the ---------------- characters.  This happens for Windows Mobile 5.0.  Whats going on?

Attached is PocketPC executable and source code.

Robert,

I tested this with LabVIEW 8.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 and was not able to see the (A), (B), (C) that you mention.  I am not sure what is going on with your code.  Are you targeting a PocketPC device or are you targeting a Windows Mobile device?  Have you tested this using the PocketPC Emulator?

Please let me know!

I am using a smartphone Samsung SCH-i730 running WM 5.0.  I'll see if I can demote myself back to LVPocketPC 8.0 and see if it works.  Did you install all the follwing?

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC
  • Visual Studio 2005 Device Command Shell (DCS)

  • If so, can you give it a shot in 8.0.1?

    Robert,

I tested this with LabVIEW 8.0.1 with a Windows Mobile Device (and targeting as such) was still able to see the separator ("-" character) instead of A, B , etc.  I tested this with your code and built my own executable and with the executable that you provided.  So I am not sure what is causing this on your system.  Have you tried using the Emulator?  Does this show the behavior that you are seeing as well?  If so please include a screenshot.

    Thanks!

I'm still getting that annoying A, B, C... etc separator.  Can you send my your project and supporting code?  I'll try to build again on my end to see if it works.

Using the files you included in your original post, I saved the rtm and exe to the My Documents directory of my Dell Axim X51v.  I then ran the exe and saw single dashes as separaters between each menu item.  And you are seeing a single letter in that same space?

How odd.  Also, I am not sure if I should be seeing a single dash or a complete line.  I am seeing a single dash, not a complete line.

    Hope that this helps,

I am also seeing a single dash.  Moreover, at the end of the separator, there is an (A) for the first separtor (B) for the second and so on...

    Ex. Menu

    Load

    -                  (A) <--------------this is my separator line

    Save

    -                  (B)

    Print

    -                  (C)

    Revert

    -                  (D)

    Exit

This really looks ugly from a UI standpoint.

    Here is what I see.

    Load

    -

    Save

    -

    Print

    -

    Revert

    -

    Exit

Since it is from the same executable, it is most likely not a LabVIEW thing? Perhaps a difference in the OS itself? I am on Windows Moble Version 5.0 OS 5.1.70 (Build 14402.1.1.0).

I have LabVIEW 8.0.1 with the PDA module updated to 8.0.1 as well.  Since I did not build it myself, the LabVIEW stuff shouldn't matter.  I have the evaluation version of Microsoft Visual Studio 5 and maybe I have some different libraries than you do due to some version difference with it.

I don't know what else to try. The same exe should behave the same . . .

Have you talked to an AE at NI? You might want to point them to these posts if you do.

Sorry I am out of ideas!

I am using Visual Studio 2005 full, Visual Studio Device Command Shell (DCS) and Window Mobile 5.0 SDK

My Samsung SCH-i730 Smartphone is using Window Mobile 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (build 14928.2.2.0)

I develop in LabVIEW 8.0.1 with PDA for PocketPC in 8.0.1

I hope NI chimes in again

    Robert,

I have attached a EXE that I built with LabVIEW PDA 8.0.1 targeted to a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, could you test that and see if you still see the same behavior?  Have you tested on the emulator?  It might be that this is an OS setting on the Smartphone that is causing this issue, since I am unable to see this behavior using your EXE or VI.  The calls to the run-time menu are made through the OS so it is entirely possible that we won't be able to reproduce this unless we have that phone to test it on.  In any case let me know if you still this behavior with the attached EXE and on the emulator.

    Thanks!
