hi
I want to use a driver for my instrument that only works with windows 95/NT. I do have some sub VIs for this instrument in labview 7 and 8 that require this driver.
For which windows should I go for? I tryed to install labview 7 in windows 98 and it didn't allow me (I thought that if the driver works with 95 it wouldn't be a problem with 98...).
Cheers

LabVIEW 7 does not support Windows 98. It does, however, support NT. Do the drivers you have use a custom DLL or something? If so, Windows 2000 may work (stress on "may"). What is the instrument? How do you know that it works only with WIndows 95/NT? There is no updated driver available?

HI ,

I would suggest you to go for Windows with SP4 (with IE 5.5+) . And I guess most of the instruments provide drivers for win2000.

and you would be able install LabVIEW only on win2000 and above .

Please let know if any issues.

Regards,

Sundar.

Thank you for replying!

I'm trying to work with a Solar Array Simulator from Agilent. I've no clue about what a DLL is. I know that this driver only works with 95/NT by the description from Agilent and it crashed my XP. I also know they don't have any newer one.

So windows NT would be the best option... I'm just afraid that NT will be really a pain to work with. Maybe I just try 2000 first.

A DLL is a Dynamic Link Library. It's basically a library of code that's been compiled for use by other programs. Many DLLs are operating-system specific. The fact that it says it was written for 95/NT may just be old documentation. The fact that it crashed your XP may be due to the fact that it's using a DLL, or it may be something else. Agilent's line of solar array simulators are essentially just power supplies. Is this what you have, or do you have a custom rack? Do you have a model number? If you post the driver someone may be able to offer an alternative solution. Perhaps something crazy like a virtual machine running within your XP environment?

HI, I would suggest you to look out for the latest drivers from the internet or approach Agilent itself . Am sure you will be able to get the latest driver support. Sundar.
