Open labview versions till 7.x with 8.5

I've update my labview version for 8.5. Uninstalling the previous version in other to avoid some complications in the future that can be caused by the mix of versions (that's what I think).
But the first problem that I've found it's that I can open vi's made on versions till 7.x.

In this specific case. i can't open the labview_win_util32.zip.

How can I turn around this problem without installing old versions of labview?

OK. I think that the problem it's solved. 2 things:

I've found a pc with labview 8.2.1.

OK,

Let try to explain again... There's set of .llb for controlling windows API called "labview_win_util32.zip" that can be downloaded in NI site.

I already had those libraries for a long time. And when I yesterday tried to open it with labview 8.5, it returned the message that the files were very old and it couldn't be opened by it.

The same problem happened with a friend from another company.

But I've download the files again and the problem it's happening. So... Sorry for the inconvenience.

That's an interesting problem that you posted... Glad you found a solution.

As for multiple LV installations, I have on one PC LV7.0, LV7.1, LV8.2 and LV8.5.  Furthermore, you can open different releases at the same time (ie: work on both LV7.1 & 8.2 at the same time).  They do not seem to interfere with one another and I think that it's rather common to have multiple installs. So theres really no need to remove a past installation when upgrading to a new (major) release..

Well Joe,

That's a good think to hear. Beause everytime I receive Labview cd's I became very bored with the idea of having to spend lots of hours unistalling and installing labview.

I'm Unistalling because I'm following my boss's advice.  He said that he had some problems with old versions.

But I think that I'm following your idea and let old versions in the future installations.

The biggest issue that I have had with installing new versions while retaining older versions is if you install the newest version of an add-on, like the DSC package, the older version will no longer work.

I too have to maintain a number of versions to be able to support various customers. Yesterday I was opening an example from the NI web site and when I went to close it asked if I wanted to save as there had been changes. When I looked to see what they were this particular VI was originally save in 6.1, so at least for some it would appear that 8.5.

It's good to know these things.  I haven't ventured with DSC's yet..

Yes, you do have to be careful when opening  / saving VI's...  You can quickly find yourself with VI's unwantingly being saved in a newer version.  Ben had suggested a "safer" method sof opening VI's in such a situation... Right-click and use open with (and select LV release..).
