NI 9505 9 pin connector numbering discrepancy

Hello,

There is a discrepancy between the 9505 manual and the legend on the 9505 itself- the numbering of the pins is reversed.  I wired it up according to the legend on the 9505 and got some erratic behavior and then noticed that it was different in the manual.  I'm about to rewire my setup according to the manual's pinout although I am a little worried that it may cause some damage if that is wrong.  Can you please tell me which version is correct?

Thank you,

Hello Ezra,

I apologize for the inconvenience, but this is actually a known issue with this 9505 documentation. The diagram on the hardware itself is incorrect and the correct wiring diagram for the connector is the one located in the manual. Please post back if you experience any difficulty using the diagram from the manual. Thanks,

So, dear blog reader. To muddy the waters of this post, a prof and I have been wiring up a 9505 this afternoon and we are finding that the Module is correct and the documentation is incorrect...

Documentation states that the short end of the db9, with the numerals readable are, from top to bottom 6, 7, 8, 9

Documentation states that the long end of the db9, with the numerals readable are, from top to bottom 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Module label states that the short end of the db9, with the numerals readable are, from top to bottom 9, 8, 7, 6

Module label states that the long end of the db9, with the numerals readable are, from top to bottom 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

pin 5 should be 5 volts, pin 9 should be zero and we read 5 Volts across the pins that are listed as 5 and 9 on the module.  So, it appears that the module is labeled correctly...

This was reported to R&D (# 46D3HBE8) and was fixed in the October 2007 edition of the manual.  The correct pin assignment is on page 15 of the NI 9505 Operating Instructions and Specifications and matches the module label.
