Modal Dialog Loses Control (Nested Modal Dialogs)

Hello,

I have a problem. I have modal dialogs that are nested 3 deep. When I
call the first modal dialog, a menu dialog, there are buttons to launch
subVI's which are also modal. Inside these second layers are more
modals. The user insists on this menu structure. My problem is that
one second-layer VI in particular, when the third layer modal is
launched, returns to the first-layer modal, thus locking the program.
The other "second-layer" modals do not have this problem (they all call
the same third layer modals). Has anyone else had this problem with
Labview losing the "focus" on a modal dialog and dropping back to its
caller? I have a kluge using a property node to temporarily change the
window behavior of the second layer to non-modal, and then change it
back again after closing the offending dialog. But I would rather know
why it is doing this. It's almost as if the modal property isn't
working for this one particular VI.

Hello,

I have not seen this behavior, although I have never played with such a menu structure.  I think I understand what you are saying though; can you post a simple example of this so I can take a look?  That way I can get a better idea of the problem, and perhaps help us understand why that behavior exists or perhaps even discover a bug.  Also, please post the versions of LabVIEW you have tried this on 🙂

I look forward to your post, and for efficiency, please post as simple an example as possible!

Thank you,
