Missing DAQ Assistant

    Hello friends,
I have to handle analog input and output data with NI USB 6221. I have installed the Labview 8.5 version followed by my device drivers. Being a beginner I want to make use of the DAQ Assistant. However I do not find the much helpful DAQ Assistant anywhere in my Measurement I/O  or in the Express VI blocks. Is anything wrong with my installation ? My driver CD reads DAQmx 8.5. Please send in your advice ASAP.

First I would upgrade to NI-DAQMX 8.6.1

Make sure that you install the examples for the labview version that you have (i.e LabVIEW 8.5) when you install the device drivers.

Thanks a lot Mr. Easterling, for your timely and valuable reply to this beginner's message. I followed your advice, installed 8.6.1 and successfully got the much useful DAQ Assistant. Being a beginner, I have just now started using the DAQ Asst for simple tasks.
The crisis I am in now is that I have been assigned to complete an integrated input/output task for a specific application strictly within this week. I am very sure that my requirement will look as elementary to your level. I would be very grateful to you if you could suggest me a rough block diagram for the application. The description of the application is as follows.
I need to measure the Operate Ampere-turn(OAT) and Contact resistance(CR) of reed switches using the USB 6221 interface. I output a positive ramp wave through AO1 , which is converted to a proportional current in the external circuit and passed through a coil. A reed switch (connected between AI0 and ground) and placed inside the core of the coil, closes when the current through the coil reaches a particular value. Now I have to sense the closing of the switch, stop the triangular wave at that point and display the voltage at AO1 and AI0 from which I can easily determine the OAT and CR of the particular reed-switch. Then I have to output a negative ramp wave through AO1 similarly to determine the voltage level at which the switch opens which gives the Release Ampere-turn(RAT) of the reed switch.
I do sincerely look forward to your valuable reply. Thanks a lot in advance.

Sincerely Yours,

Hi Jprakash,

If I understand your application correctly, you need to set up an analog output and an analog input task simultaneously.  You can start both tasks at the same time and record data continuously.  In software, you can determine the input and output voltages at the moment the switch relay changes position.  I would recommend taking a look at a shipping example in LabVIEW that sets up a synchronous analog output and input task.  You can find it in LabVIEW by going to Help » Find Examples.  Then select Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Synchronization » Multi-Function-Synch AI-AO.vi .

Hi guys,

I have the Daqmx 8.6.1 and my LabView is 8.6 is there any problem? Because I can't find the Daq Assistant. When I was installing Labview, at the end there was a pop-up asking to install something that it couldn't find at that particular moment. So I decided to do it later. By that time I didn't installed Daqmx yet. Will the problem be this? If it is, is there any other thing to do to make him recognize it. Because I have already installed the Daq, but it is not lying in function's pallette.

Regards.
