MOKE Labview Program (Magneto Optical Kerr Effect)

Hello all,

 

I'm a summer engineering intern at Drexel University and I was wondering if anybody could help me out with this program I've been running. In this program, a magnet sweeps through a specific field that is input by the user in a cyclical fashion. The problem is that this field never returns to zero (e.g. the hysteresis graph for ferromagnetic materials does not close). The program starts at 10 Oe, but ends somewhere around 5 or 6 upon returning to the original value. Any information on this issue would be greatly appreciated, thanks! (The code is attached to this post and the password for the block diagram is "nosteven").

Hi drexelMOKE,

 

Do you think the code is the issue here?  If you run the code without a magnet moving through your field, do the values stay unchanged?  Also, is the field that you're moving the magnet through the ferromagnetic material or were you talking about the magnet itself being ferromagnetic?  This may sound like a basic question, but it's possible that there may be some lingering magnetic effects on a ferromagnetic material for a small amount of time after it has been exposed to a magnet, right?  I am not very familiar with MOKE, but hopefully removing the magnet from the testing procedure will identify whether or not the code is changing your expected values or there is an effect from the magnet that is persistent.  Let us know!
