Loading my VI in LabVIEW 8.2.1 causes LabVIEW to hang.

Loading my VI in LabVIEW 8.2.1 causes LabVIEW to hang.  I have an older version that sometimes loads, but it causes LabVIEW to hang many of the times as well. I think the older version of my VI only hangs when you try to scroll around by clicking in the scroll bar area instead of clicking the scroll arrow.  I am not getting any error messages.  I have to close LabVIEW using the task manager.  I've tried this on multiple computers with the exact same results.  The VI has sensitive information, so I would rather not post the VI publicly.  If you have the capability of debugging a hung LabVIEW .VI, then please send me your email information.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

you may try this:

Do all this in the older LV version: Open the block diagram, "Select all", copy and paste to a new vi block diagram. Save the new vi with a changed name. Now try to open the vi in LV8.21.

Can you tell us if this procedure helped? (This procedure will [hopefully] get rid of insane [block diagram] objects...)

Best regards,
GerdW

Do you have any ActiveX controls on the front panel, or any other "fancy" things on it?

I did the copy/paste, and it fixed the hang on scrolling.  How very odd...  Unfortunately, I've lost all changes to my one that won't open at all if this is my end solution, but I can re-create it if need be.  It would be good to know if anything can be done with the perma-hung one.

Thank you for your fast response and good suggestion.  I was happy to see that I didn't have to re-create the front panel layout when copying the block diagram.

How do I rate answers?  And, do I have to rate every one of your responses or just pick one?  And if I rate yours, does that keep me from rating other people's? (i.e., closing the answer thread)

Thanks again,

Matt

Actually, my front panel is quite simple.  I have about 12 text boxes and several combo boxes.  I also have 3 Waveform Graphs and and array indicator.  Oh yeah, I forgot I added a text box and a toggle switch to the version that hangs on load.

Thanks for your quick response,

Matt

Hi Matt,

nice to hear that trick helped. Usually LV informs you about any "insane objects" before saving, in this case you should perform this procedure immediatly... When the vi "kills" LV while loading it's too late.

To rate messages you should click on those "kudos" buttons right to the message. Once should be fine, but it's Christmas time and nice to give away presents Smiley Wink Maybe you're too new to the forum and this option isn't enabled yet?

Best regards,
