Labview runtime engine

I am trying to install LABView 5.1 runtime engine on a Pentium 166MHz, 64 MB RAM computer. The setup starts off fine and suddenly during installation the app is killed and everything is back where it was ? Any ideas why this is happening ?

Hi amrish,

which OS do you have?
If you have NT, W2K, XP Prof are you logged in as administrator?
If you have XP Prof did you start the installation using the compability mode?
Have you a standard installation of the OS? I have customers who use special staged versions of W2K to get a higher security for their machines. This may also cause faults during installation.

Are you installing the engine from a CD or from the network? Copy the .exe to your hard drive and run the installer from there.
Do you have any other LabVIEW run-time engine installed? Try removing the other ones until you install version 5.1.
Do you have problems installing any other software on that computer?
Check if there are any log files created by either the installer or Windows. The error reported there may be helpful in troubleshooting what caused it?

Hi Zvezdana,

I am installing it from the hard drive. No previous versions installed. I had installed MAX on it and it had worked fine. The installation creates a "labview runtime" folder and the following files

lvrt.dll
ole_lv5container.dll
uninst.isu

No log files created either by the installer or windows.
Thanks

Amrish,
I just installed run-time engine 5.1 on my machine and these are the only three files that were created in the ...National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\5.1 folder.
Once the installers starts, after first couple of windows, it runs without any user interactions. There is no final window where you would select Finish.
You should see the NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 5.1 under Add/Remove Programs. If you try to run an executable created with the LabVIEW 5.1 Application Builder, it should tell you if the Run-Time Engine 5.1 is not installed correctly.
I don't think there was any problem with your installation. It seems RTE was installed correctly.
