Labview PDA support USB?

Does the LabVIEW 8.0 PDA support USB communication?

Hey Jim77215,

Unfortunately LabVIEW PDA 8.0 does not support USB communication natively.  It may be possible to make DLL calls on the PDA, but this can get quite complicated.

Hope this helps!

do you know if there are licensing requirements for this software, or is it a straight purchase?

Jim77215,

You just have to download the Dll and the example vis library .Your PDA have to support USB ,That is USB host ,dont forget your USB must have fTDIchip, only then will you be able to use the Dll and LV8PDA .There are documentations on how to use the Dll.And also how to use Dll and LV PDA.

Hope this will be helpfull

Ohiofudu,
we did similar to what you proposed : pda is n30 from acer (usb host ) , usb chip is ft245BM from ftdi , dll come from ftdichip.com but we don't succeed in sending the labview pda exe into the pda (error message on pc : " FTxxxx is a missing VI or Cfile ")
any idea of the origin of this problem ? ( regional option ?)

optomesures,

I have seen a regional option have this effect before.  I would check to see if you are using a period or a comma for the decimal point.  You might want to try following the steps in this KB to see if that helps.  If not then I might suggest checking out the Calling External Code in LabVIEW PDA KB as well.  One last thing to try would be to see if the code works on the Windows machine.  The DLL would have some problems, but make sure it is has at least a basic functionality.

Hope this helps!

Andy,

many thanks for having taken our problem into account .

we checked in "how to call external code in labview pda for pocket pc" and discovered we had a missing .lib

after some difficulties in finding the right .lib from ftdi ( downloading und unzipping files from ftdi sometimes yield .LIB which is not accepted in the dialog box ) we succeeded in sending our project in the pda.

Hi Andy,
You are right.....what Optomesures need is the ftdi.lib file or the ftdi.h.These files can be found in the ftdi web side or you can request for it from support@ftdi they are nice guys.
Hope this will take care of the Problem.

Dears,

I have a E2 Tungsten with PALM OS and I have developed a application using LabVIEW 8.0. This application is in charge to communicate a PDA with an external device through USB Port. I have read the previous topics of this problem in this forum, but I didn't understand well about FTDI DLL. How can I put and use this DLL in my project? And about the FTDI chip, how can I choose the right model for my application?

     Thanks for your help.
