Labview Intensity Graph Vertical Axis Label

When I change the font of the vertical axis label of a Labview intensity graph, the label disappears. Is this a Labview bug or is there a way to correct the problem?

Hello,

I don't see this behavior in LabVIEW 7.1.  Which version do you observe this behavior in?  Can you post a before and after screenshot, and indicate exactly which font you tried to change the label to?  I was able to change it to Comic Sans MS.

Ill do you one better and attach a VI which has a copy of my intensity chart. It appears that the problem only occurs when the properties of the intensity graph have been altered because I dont have the same problem when I pull a fresh graph from the controls pallette. Thanks!

Hello,

So do you have the same problem with your fresh copy... I don't think I see the problem with the copy you attached either!

PS - maybe I'm missing what you're seeing... perhaps a screenshot with an indication of precisely where you see the problem would help.

That is really strange! Ive included before and after screenshots showing that the vedrtical label disappears after the font change. Ive changing the justification and anything else I can think of to try and get the label where it ought to be but to no avail. Maybe its the way the fonts are configured on my PC or something. Ive seen wierd things happen with Windows fonts b4.

Hello,

Ok, I see what you're saying from the screenshots, and I do see a similar affect on my machine where only the last couple of letters appear, but that's only when I am actually typing the new label... as soon as I click away, it's ok!  Well, ok is relative term here, because I think you raise a valid point about the bad behavior:

1. While editing the label, there's no reason for most of it to disappear - that fact that it comes back on my machine is consolation.
2. When it does come back, if it's too long, it doesn't center itself, which is not aesthetically pleasing... point taken away from consolation there 🙂

You can see this in the attached screenshots, appropriately named.  With that said, I will file a corrective action request on this so that R&D can take a look at it - the behavior is the same in LabVIEW 8.0 on my machine as well.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience you're having with this.  As a workaround in the short term, you could leave the actual label for the graph axis blank, and place a free label there instead.  You can right click on the free label and use the counterclockwise operation to rotate it so that it appears in the correct orientation, and you could even highlight both the graph and the label when you have it positioned, and group the objects to they move together as you arrange and edit your front panel.

I hope this is sufficient for you, and thank you for alerting the community to this!

Here are those screenshots... I was a little quick to submit 🙂

PS - of course, when you're editing the free label, it doesn't have those nasty affects, and if you group the objects (see the Free Label and Grouping screenshot) it behaves (at least cosmetically) much like a native graph label 🙂

PSS - just a note... there's an interesting affect in LabVIEW 8.0, such that if you group an object (even a free label) with another object, it will cause you not to be able to delete those objects from the block diagram.  This is nice because you won't accidentally delete other things which have been grouped with it, but in the case of grouping a free label (which doesn't show up on the block diagram) with another object that DOES show upon the block diagram, this can be a little deceiving 🙂
