Labview 8.6 "installation build unsuccessful"

I am unable to create an installer for my Labview program.  The application builder works fine, but when I try to build an installer, I get the following errors:

Possible Reasons:

CDK_CreateNewWizard_Invoke.vi.ProxyCaller >> CDK_CreateNewWizard_Invoke.vi >> CDK_InstallerConfiguration_Editor.vi >> CDK_Build_Invoke.vi >> CDK_Engine_Main.vi >> CDK_Engine_PreBuild.vi >> CDK_Validate_DistParts.vi >> CDK_DistParts_GetInstalledProducts.vi >> NI_MDF.lvlib:MDFProdInfoList_Open.vi

Under the "Additional Installers" tab, there is nothing listed.  I assume that this is part the problem, but why would I have nothing listed here?  I tried reinstalling from the DVD, but it said that everything was already there.  I haven't the slightest idea how to "add" additional installers beyond installing everything from the distribution DVD's.  Surely it should be part of the installation!

I am using Labview 8.6 Professional Development System on Windows XP Pro w/ SP3.  I have the latest NI-DAQmx 8.8 installed and the latest Developer Suite disks (Fourth Quarter 2008).  The program is pretty straight forward - using DAQmx hardware drivers.  I also have Labview 8.5 & 7.1 installed on the same computer.  I have tried deleting the Build spec and starting over, but get the same results.  I also tried going back to Labview 8.5, but I get the same results (no additional installers and build unsuccessful).

I have tried using the installer on several occasions with different computers and different programs since v 8.0 and have had problems every time.  In my earlier attempts at least I had options listed under "Additional Installers"  Am I the only one that can't seem to make this work?  Why does this have to be so difficult?  The "Possible Reasons" are completely useless without some guidance as to how to fix it.  In the past I have just abandoned my effort, but now I have a remote installation that requires an installer CD.

There are several threads in the discussion forums with similar symptoms, but the only "fix" I have seen has been to delete the build spec and start over.  That does nothing for me.

I would appreciate any help here.

Hi there

i once had the same problem when moving my project from 8.20 to 8.5. I also had several versions of LV on my system. The cure was to remove all LV versions and make a pure 8.5 install. You could try to setup a pure 8.6 install on a VMware platform, so you don't need to setup your development platform.

"I assume that this is part the problem, but why would I have nothing listed here?  I tried reinstalling from the DVD, but it said that everything was already there"

Then take a look at this thread:

Uninstall everything you want to reinstall and run the MSIBlast.exe utility afterwards. Search for MSIBlast on this forum or take a look at the first reply to the thread mentioned above.

Best regards
chris
