Labview 5.1 to Labview 2010 conversion

Hi Raven Fan,

Good team!

I downloaded the LVRunTimeEng for version 6.1 for example.  When I run this application, it produces a directory C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\6.1 with many files but does not produce a labview.exe file for 6.1.  The same is true for the 8.2

Thanks

LabVIEW,exe is the executable that launches the LabVIEW development environment.  The program you use to create LabVIEW VI's.

The run time engine download is to install the files you need on your PC so that you can run .exe files you created of your own program using the Application Builder that is a part of the Professional version of LabVIEW or an addon to the Full or Basic versions.

The runtime engine doesn't do you any good for trying to upgrade the LabVIEW VI's to newer versions.  You need to download the LabVIEW development environment, NOT the run-time engine.

It is sad that the users have to post their software on a board to get it upgraded or downgraded. NI should have a conversion program or service to do it for you.

They do- its a collaborative effort though.  NI offers a SSP- you keep getting the latest and greatest version of the package you purchased and , wait for it.....TA DA you upgrade your code according to your companies "continuous improvement plan".   That is good practice! (Actually, its
Generally Accepted Good Business Practice or, GAGBP)

On the other hand- if you feel software development is a one-time purchase (yeah- I still run my car on the factory oil! Bald Tires and all!) you can freely post to the forums when you realize your error- we even don't pick on the posters to those threads too much- since its usually the bosses error.Smiley Wink

It is a method. Most companies generally don't like you posting your code for the world to see. My point is: NI created this problem of incompatible code between version, they should provide a conversion utility for users who have to support or inherit code. Posting your companies code on a web site is not a good solution. By the way SSP since LabVIEW 3.
