LabView load error code 5

I get the error LabView load error code 5: Could not load block diagram link information when I try to open on of my VIs. This is a VI that I have used for a while, and it just quit working one day. I would appreciate any help with this.

Hello mhester,

I have done some searching on the load error code 5 and could not find any reported cases of this error occurring when opening a VI. Could you please provide some more information about the system you are using and the behavior you are seeing.

Things to include:

1. Which version of LabVIEW are you using?
2. What Operating System?
3. When was the last time you successfully opened the VI?
4. Has anything changed in the system since the last successful load of the VI?
5. Is any hardware being used with the VI? If so, what hardware?
6. Anything other information that would aid in troubleshooting.

Regards,

The file stopped opening about a week ago. I first had the problem when I went to build an application, and it wouldn't work because that error 5 occured. I am using LabView 7.1 on Windows 2000. The file is a sub vi in a program that controls instruments, but that particular file just processes the data and does not control the instruments. I have fixed the problem now by updating and using an older version of the file that opens, but am still puzzled as to why the error occurred in the first place.

Hello mhester,

If this is just one isolated case, it is probably due to the VI becoming corrupted and will not occur again. Please let me know if you see this behavior again and we can troubleshoot this issue more.

Any of you guys have a comment about error code 8? Some time ago I got that error code when tried to open a Vi and wasn't able to open it any more. I think it happens after my computer crashed while saving the Vi but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Marce

Hello Marce,

Like in mhesters case this is probably an isolated incident where LabVIEW was not able to save the file completely before your computer crashed, resulting in a corrupted file. The best thing to do in this situation is to keep regular backups of all your development.

Please let me know if you have anymore questions about this.
