LabView 8.0 won't recognize my main VI when building

Let me start by saying I despise 8.0.  (I work for a new company and they have 8.0 here.) I’ve been a LV user since 5.0 and the look, find, and build has remained virtually the same to 7.1.  Running 8.0 is like starting all over again and I am constantly searching, using Help, and setting my options.  This is NOT what I should be spending MOST of my time on.  Having air out a small amount of my frustrations, I am trying to build my first very simple VI (and it is not polymorphic!) with 8.0. (I have built .exes hundreds of times in the past.)  By following the Help for building .exes, I have learned I must build projects, something I never had to do before, but I have now done for my main VI.  I start the Build process as described by Help and I see my main VI in the Startup VIs window under Source Files.  When I select Build, LabView comes back with the error message “You did not specify any startup VIs. Do you wish to continue?” yet visually I see my main VI in the Startup VIs window under Source Files.  Even if I click on it to select it and then click the Build button, same results.  Here’s the kicker, if I click the Remove button to try to add it again, it will not allow me to add my main VI because it is unselectable as it sits under My Computer (and the Add button does not become enabled).  Please don’t tell me I need to reload 8.0 because it took the IT dept over 4 hours to do.  (Another nice feature of 8.0)

Hi J. Masse,

sorry that it doesn't work, I had no issues with simple exes at all...
But i think you missed the point that you have to move the main vi from the middle pane (Project Files) to the right pane: Start-up VIs and Dynamic VIs with the blue buttons...

Good luck,

Ton

As mentioned, the Add button you circled does not become enabled for me.  When I start, my Main VI is in the Statup VI panel, Labview does not see it when I try to build.  I remove it using the Remove blue arrow you circled and it goes back to the Project File pane at which time it becomes unselectable and the blue Add button you circled does not become enabled.  Can not build!!!  I will try power cycling my PC.  Labview 8.0 seems to love this!

Yeah LV has a tendency to keep certain settings in memory (that's why a second load is way faster on 8.0)
Unfortunatly sometimes the wrong things stick in memory Smiley Mad
