Hi Jabili,

I am not sure if you are asking if PDA supports serial communications, but the answer is that it does. Basically, LabVIEW talks serial using the VISA VIs or the Serial Compatibility VIs. It is left to the hardware and driver of the PDA to take those serial commands and turn them into IrCOMM. Also, have you tried using ring and enum controls with the PDA and are you getting a specific error or is this a more general question?  I’m not exactly sure which PDA would be best for your application. I would recommend looking at the PDA User Manual to see which PDAs do support the PDA module and rule those that do not off the list. I do know that PDA applications run on Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.

Hi jabili,

There are a few great knowledge base articles that discuss how you can implement serial communication with your PDA device and how to use LabVIEW serial VIs to commuicate with the PDA. There is also a great NI Developer Zone article that talks about Using the LabVIEW PDA module for Serial communication. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this information. hi, , i want one information  my application is run labview 8.5 pda pocket pc evaluation mode (arm processers), my qustion is is this emulator can support serial communication ?  . if support please tell me how can i implement that.

Hi Jabili,

The emulator can support serial communication; however, you need to setup up the emulator to do so.

hi jonah , i am not getting the options in Labview 8.5 , weather this otion is for labview 7.1 only are any other?

Now i am using Labview 8.5 and Labview 8.5 Pda evaluation mode  .Please  help me ... my code is Running  Pocket pc -2003 Emulator with windows

Hi Jabili,

For LabVIEW & PDA 8.5 you can change the serial settings by bringing up the emulator window, you can bring up the window by:

1. Right clicking the PDA target in the Project Explorer window
2. Click Launch Device Emulator Manager
3. Select your device and click Action>>Connect (this should bring up your emulator)

Then once your emulator is open:

1. Select File >> Configure...
2. Click on the Peripherals tab and this will allow you to map your PDA serial ports to your PC's

hi  i open the configure window , biut i got a duobt i.e in this window i saw three options  1. serial port0, 2. serial port1, 3. serial port3. how  can i map these option , if i want to use com1 for serial communication of my device . please tell me

hi jonah, one more question i.e , i write code for error handling for serial port , if port connected i.e no error,if port is not connected the one button function  display device is not connected . It is works nice in pc . ,My qusetion is this works on Pocket Pc emulator ?
