LabVIEW 2020 Community Edition Installation Error

Solved!
Go to solution

When I attempt to install the LabVIEW 2020 Community Edition I get Error '3' occurred while trying to copy the file 'C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\7zOC554E626\bin\nipkg.ini' to 'C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\nipkg_preinstall-b77e-b230-1b2e-4989\nipkg.ini'. Error details: The system cannot find the path specified. Indeed, there is no such .ini file at the location from which the copy is being attempted. What do I need to do to solve this problem?

  • Is your disk very full?
  • How big is the ...\AppData\Local\Temp folder?
  • Do you run any unusual antivirus or security software?
  • Where did you download the community edition from?
  • What is your OS version?
  • Did you scan the HD for errors?
  • How about a disk cleanup?
  • What kind of privileges do you have?

Well, I am almost out of ideas....

  • The distribution is an ISO file. Do you have any third party disk burning software that opens iso files by default (instead of windows explorer)?
  • You could try extracting the ISO to a folder (e.g. using 7zip) and run the installer from there. Not sure if it would make a difference.
  • How big is the iso file? Are you sure it downloaded completely?

This worked. I now realize that when I selected the ISO file it was opening in 7zip and I was trying to run install.exe from there before extracting the contents. Once I extracted the contents and ran from the extracted location it worked.

Thank you!

I used software that mounts an ISO image as a virtual CD/DVD image and that worked fine.

Windows 10 mounts ISOs automatically when double-clicked. No software needed. (Of course if certain third party CD burning software is installed, it might squat on this feature, potentially breaking other things. :()

I haven't upgraded to Windows 10.  (At home.)
