Ed,
I don't know of any one book that covers serial communication in
great detail specifically for LabVIEW. Most of the good general LabVIEW
books have a section on it. Gary Johnson's Graphical Programming is
among the best and just came out with a new edition. Also, I have a
document on my web page that points to several resources for information
on serial port communication. On www.originalcode.com, go to Example
Code, Utilities, and Program Downloads and look for the document under
the Serial Tools section.

Regards,
Dave Thomson

Thanks, Dave. I am particularly interested in how to handle asynchronous
serial communications. I need to create a VI that will sit on a serial port
waiting for receive data without timing out, parse data as it arrives, and
pass the data to a top level VI that will use the data to control its
activity. This is basically a technique I have implemented in other
programmang languages, and need to do now in LV...Ed
