LV 3 to LV 6

OK so why does LabVIEW 5 recognise VI's written in LV 3 and offers to
save them as LV5, but LV6 doesn't? You have to open the LV 3 vi's with
LV5, save them and then open in LV 6 and save again! No problems have
been encountered doing this but it seems a very long winded way around
the problem, is there a reason?????

Ian,

The reason is that LV 6 only supports reading VIs back to version 4.x. This is very typical of any software product as a way to

1) Ensure people upgrade.
2) Make it easier to introduce changes in the application code without worrying about having to support ancient versions.

You can continue to use the method you are using or you can contact National Instruments for a converter kit. They are available for free for converting large number of VIs to the new format. It might be easiest to mass compile your VIs in LV 5 and then again in LV 6. This way you don't have to load each one individually.

Regards,

Marc

Cheers for the reply, I thought it might be that, but wanted reassurance
that there was nothing wrong in what I am doing. We don't have vast
numbers of VI's but every now and then someone says ' I've got a VI to
do that it is my old Mac......'. I'll get a converter from NI.

Thanks again.
