Why don't you just use the Write to Binary File and Read From Binary File?  Then you don't have to worry about the flatten and unflatten.  But I have a feeling it is the "Convert EOL" option of the read and write to text file that is messing you up.

The read/write from binary file worked just fine. I can't believe I didn't think of that before.  It does still leave the issue of why exactly the other method wasn't working. Like I mentioned, it was the exactly what I'd used before in several different programs.  Thanks!
