When running Juniper SSL VPN there is an issue with a file that is installed with LabView 8.6 - the VPN continues to receive Routing Table Errors, rendering the VPN unusable. Ending the process "nimDNSResponder.exe" allows the VPN to run normally. This process automatically starts when the PC is booted, even with the NI Device Manager set to NOT run at startup. I am performing a complete un-install of LabView. Any suggestions about what NOT to install when I reinstall LV8.6?

Hi Jerry,
Did this not occur with previous versions of LabVIEW, or is 8.6 the first time you've installed LabVIEW?

Hi Jerry,
At first glance, it appears nimDNSResponder which you are having trouble with may be installed by NI-VISA, not by core LabVIEW. NI will need to do more work to see how it is interacting with your VPN client and routing tables, but I suspect that uninstalling N-VISA would be the quickest brute force method to prevent these services from being installed.
I know you had trouble disabling this service on startup, but I suspect (havn't had a chance to test) the service continues to launch on bootup because it is a dependency of niLxiDiscovery.exe.

We may need to disable both of these two services in the Windows Administrative tools (I only know how to do this in XP, so if you are using Vista, someone may need to help us out). To disable services from starting on boot-up, Open Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services. Within the Services dialog box, find the service you want to modify and right-click, select Properties. Within the Properties dialog box, you can change the Startup Type drop-down menu to Disabled for both nimDNSResponder.exe and niLxiDiscovery.exe.

I had 7.0 installed before, and it didn't happen with that version.

Thank you, Spex. I disabled both services and the VPN works properly.
Apologies to all about the double-posting of the same problem. It struck me that the subject of this thread may not be useful in the solution of the problem... obviously an erroneous assumption.

Glad to hear you are up and running. Our AE group will continue to research what could be the root cause of the poor interaction between your VPN client and the NI services. Hopefully we'll see a CAR reported here soon.
The features that these services support is newly added, so I'm not surprised you didn't have trouble with LabVIEW 7.1.
Cheers,
