Is there a way to tokenize parts of the path strings?

Using the show hierarchy functions produces way too much text if you have your stuff in a deeply nested set of folders.  Can I tokenize parts of the path spec. I.e. $subpanel = "C:\documents and settings\desktop\RadarTesting\labviewCode\mainPanel\subpanel"  ?

Use path to array of strings.

Sorry,  I think i need to clarify my question.

This is not a programatic question (unless I can reprogram the user interface to labview itself.  It has to do with reading error and warning messages as well as functions like view heierarchy etc.  For instance, you are being warned that some vi cannot be found, so LV is gonna load one it happens to find.  With full path of the offending vi's as part to the message, it like hurts my brain just to try and figure out what's where.  In a highly nested file structure it's way to hard to read!

It would be nice if the hierarchy view could display VIs this way, e.g.
$PRJHOME/signals/outputs.vi   $PRJHOME/signals/inputs.vi  $PRJHOME/comm/rs232.vi

Make it a lot easier to read, that is for sure. I have this same problem with hierarchy view, as I keep some VIs in the "My Documents" folder of WinXP which is an unsightly path...

Any ideas?
