Is there a way to disable/enable front panel updates?

I'm populating a tree control in LabVIEW, but I don't want the end user see this. Is there some way to freeze the front panel or delay the updates until the tree has been filled? I thought there was a property node somewhere that would do this, but haven't been able to find it. Am I just imagining things?

Note: Before LV 7.0 the deferment stop FP updates. In post LV 7.0, the defer force one update before the deferment becomes effective. See release notes.
