Hi there,
I currently use Labview 8.2.1 and Labview DSC 8.2.1.
But within a short time I want to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7.
My question now is:
Is it possible to switch to Windows 7 without any problems?
Will the Labview software still run under Windows 7 without problems, or do I have to download new drivers or other software?
I hope to get a reaction soon.

Hi Cheese,
Official LabVIEW support/compatibility with Windows 7 is explained under the following articles.
National Instruments Product Compatibility for Microsoft Windows 7
Windows Version Compatibility with LabVIEW
LabVIEW Module and Toolkit Compatibility Information
On the forums, people seemed to have mixed reviews about older versions of LabVIEW with newer versions of Windows 7. Another piece of food for thought is Windows 7 (some versions) contain a "Windows XP Mode", which MAY allow you to run this version of LabVIEW in 7 however as the above articles show this is not the supported version. Essentially the XP mode allows virtualisation of XP OS on Windows 7. I've not personally tried it with this version of LabVIEW, but it's just an idea!
Upgrading to the latest version of LabVIEW will work and is fully supported.
Hope this may help 🙂

Older LabVIEW versions generally CAN run fine in windows 7. However you have to be a bit careful in what you do in those applciations. While it was generally find to do just about anything in Windows XP and earlier, even if you were not logged in as adminstrator (apart from accessing directories that do not belong to your account), Widnwos 7 is much more restrictive. It's not that LabVIEW can't run on these systems but it is that a LabVIEW application can be programmed to access directories (for ini and data files etc) that Windows 7 simply disallows sometimes even for administrators unless you go through an explicit UAC dialog.
So while a LabVIEW application CAN work on Windwos 7 it really depends how this application is programmed, if it WILL run as intended.

Cheese11,
Have you verified with Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center that the software is indeed compatible with Windows 7? The Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx and can be used for both hardware and software concerns.
If the application is not compatible with Windows 7 you might want to consider XP Mode. To learn more about XP Mode and Virtual PC, please see the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

The Compatibility Center and the Upgrade Advison knows nothing about LabVIEW.
Are you actually part of the Windows Client Team? What exactly is that?

Hi Cheese,
I have actually tested LabVIEW 7.1.1 on Windows 7, which worked fine with me (the development software at least).
There are indeed some things you have to keep in mind. One of the most important things you have to keep in mind is the driver support. Not all drivers are compatible with Windows 7, and sometimes the drivers which are compatible with Windows 7, are not compatible with your LabVIEW version.
Exactly what version of Windows 7 were you planning to use? If you're planning to use the 64-bit version of Windows 7, then it is very hard to predict if you will get your software to work correct. Driver support for 64-bit is limited to the latest versions only, which might not be compatible with LabVIEW 8.2.1 anymore.
Please provide us with more information regarding your migration. Most important are the Windows 7 version and the drivers that you use in your programs.
