In my program I use low level VI's to write to a spreadsheet which have refnum inputs and outputs. When I am done writing data, I would like to use the report generation toolkit to format it, and these use the report reference inputs and outputs. I do not know how to get a report reference for my newly created excel file, is it possible to obtain it from the refnum? Thanks for any help!

Gregory,
This sounds like a cool question. Unfortunately the Report Generation Toolkit is not made so much for opening and editing a document as it is creating/generating them. It is possible but not supported to edit a pre-existing document. The references are more than likely different for a basic spreadsheet and the RGT excel sheet so I would not think that these are interchangeable.
One simpler workaround is to just use the RGT to log the data in the first place. Hope this helps.

It appears that when using the report generation toolkit, to append a table to excel LabVIEW must open the file every time and use up more resources than just leaving the file open. My work around was to use the refnum until finished, and then using the RGT to open a new file with the template being my freshly written spreadsheet. I then apply the formatting that I desire and save right over the template I just used.
