Instrument simulation using LabVIEW 8.2 student edition

Dear All,

I am a graduate student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am designing experiments for LabVIEW  as my masters project. In one of the experiments, I have to simulate the HP 34401 DMM and Fluke/Wavetek 301 signal generator. Is it possible to simulate these instruments using LabVIEW 8.2 student edition? If it is possible, then where can I find the documentation for the simulation procedure?

Your help is most appreciated.

Thank you very much.

With regards,

Amit

Both of those instruments have IVI drivers. IVI has a built-in simulation option. Go to the Instrument Driver Network, search for the model numbers and download the IVI drivers. You have to configure the drivers in MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer). There is information in the MAX help for how to do this. Besides the student edition, you will need to install NI-VISA and the IVI Compliance Package. Links to both should be on the download page.

Dear Mr. Dennis,

Thank you for your reply and kind help. I have downloaded the required drivers and I am trying to configure them using MAX. I am using IVI user manual, which is published by NI, as a guide to configure the drivers using MAX. The first step to configure the driver is to launch the IVI driver utility using MAX or by following the path Programs»National Instruments IVI Driver Library»IVI Configuration. However, by either way, I am not able to locate the IVI driver utility. Do I need to install additional software?

Once again, thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Regards,

Amit

Where did you get this IVI User Manual? Can you provide a link? I don't hve this program either and have never used it. I've always just gone into MAX.

Dear Mr. Dennis,

Here is link for the manual : http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/321629a.pdf. I am referring to chapter 4, configuring your system.

Amit

That manual is 9 years old.  Many things have changed since then.  You can open max, and then from there... EXPAND the IVI drivers, then under "Advanced" you can configure the simulations.

Dear Stradis,

Thanks for your feedback. Without it, I would have ended up wasting lot of time in unnecessary things.
