You can do a quick internet search and come up with an answer along the lines of

On average, a private tutor costs between $25 and $80 an hour

This is for students. For tutoring in a professional career, $50 is absolutely reasonable... I would actually expect it to be higher.

Edit: For clarity, this is assuming you live in the US where it is not uncommon for an experienced LabVIEW developer to be paid $120,000 / year. This equates to roughly $57 / hour and that isn't even the fully burdened rate (including health insurance, benefits, retirement, etc). Fully burdened rate of an experienced developer would be closer to $120 / hour

It depends on a lot of factors such as,

  • Student location
  • Tutor location
  • Hour of the day
  • Virtual or in-person
  • Misc. expenses (like LabVIEW license, IT equipment, Internet, other services subscription, business expenses)

Tutors located in the west tend to be expensive due to the higher prevailing local wages whereas tutors from Asia are more affordable. Even in the US, a tutor from NY or CA will be a lot more expensive than a tutor from TX or AZ.

If you look at tutors from Asia, some could even teach for as low as $10/hour (speculation based on local wages)

Come up with a rate reasonable for you and your student - none of the parties should feel exploited.
