How do I load a vi into a subpanel?

Is it possible to load a VI into a subpanel without having to use the "invoke node" method? That is to say, can I simply drag and drop the little VI icon into my block diagram and somehow wire that so it runs within a subpanel? I've attached a small example.

I'm only aware of the invoke node method.
