Generating 3d data

I came across this on making a 3d plot with the 4th "w" dimension being used as an intensity.  I would like to do something like that to show heat intensity on an object that is instrumented.  I'm a little slow at finding a simple 3d program that I can use to model my object and output parametric xyz data.  I think if I can get the model in parametric xyz form, then I can come up with the intensity calculations.  Any suggestions on programs?

I have SolidWorks 2006 at my disposal, but I haven't used it much.  The other engineers around here use it for mechanical design, but i'm the application guy.  Our floating seat license is always in use by someone so it is also a hard one to schedule time on.  Playing around in it, it seems that it may be a bit overkill from what I am needing.

Can anyone help?

I know this isn't a direct LabVIEW question but more like it is relating to LabVIEW.

Thanks!

I am sure I am going to shock some readers by not pointing you at my 3-d graph examples...

I suggest you look into using DIAdem (see this borad)

Repost your question to that board. I would not be suprised if what you are asking for is actually a built in functionality of DIAdem.

DIAdem is too expensive, and I can't see much bennefit out of using it.  Labview can plot what I need I just need another program to come up with a 3d model and output 3d parametric data.

Thank you for your reply!

Sorry about that Nic!

I was really tryin to help by posting as I did. You should probably re-post this Q again to the LV thread. Unfortunately, once a Q is answered, the chances of getting another response are slim.

Again, please accept my appology!

Nic,

I may be way off base here. Have a look at this website

It lists the 3D Tools for making models in the gaming community. Some of them are free or very inexpensive. Maybe one of these would might suit your needs.

Hope this helps
