GPIB Addressing

I am trying to communicate with an instrument that is located at address 0. Usually when I have a visa session it shows all available ports and GPIB addresses but there is nothing for this device. How do I go about finding this device which is located at adresss 0?

Your problems will go away if you use an address other than the default address for the GPIB controller. You cannot have duplicate addresses.

At the risk of sounding dumb, any idea how that is done? I have a National instruments PCMCIA-GPIB card.

I didn't mean that you should change the address of the GPIB board. All I meant was that the default address of the controller is zero. You should really be assigning a different address to the instrument and how to do that shold be explained in your instrument manual.
