FieldPoint Problems (crash and other)

I need help for fieldpoint problems:

1 - Occasional crash FP-1600

It happens when were working with the FieldPoint operating,
Labview/Explorer operating and connected with the sensors, with a tractor
test occasionally it crashes.
In the same conditions, but without the tractor in test we have never had
problems.
(but we cant rule out that hypothesis).

2 - Occasional crashes OPC server

The PC slows down and stops data acquisition when the LabView cycles are
particularly near or more requests of the program or of the FP-Explorer are
carrying out.
The only solutions are: to start again the PC, or sometime to close and
start again the program.

3 - Problems with the temperature feelers (FP-TC-120 with 8 thermocouples K
type)

Above all when the instrumentation was switched on from few time, all the 8
values were wrong.
And we had to switch off and turn on more than once the FP to have the right
values.
All the other units (2 FP-AI-100) were working well.
The problem didnt seem of the thermocouples because connecting them to an
other instrumentation they worked well.
The unit FP-TC-120 has been replaced from the N.I. and the problem was
solved.
But there was an other problem: during the test of a channel we had wrong
data (the thermocouple was ok), after few days an other channel has had the
same problem.
That instrumentation wasnt used for a couple of weeks and when it was
turned on again seemed that all was working correctly.

The measurement system is utilized for tractors power take off test and
thermocouples measure gear oil temperature, air intake temperature, etc.
etc. and all the problems have happened when the feeler was in the engine
carter (engine oil temperature) and the double fault, strangely, has
happened always on a feeler inside the engines carter.
Moving the thermocouples connectors to understand if the problem was
depending from the thermocouples insertion has happened to feel a slight
electric shock while a technician was accelerating the tractors engine yet
cold (both the faults happened with instruments and engine switched on in
the tests preliminary phase).
The module is a FP-TC-120 with 8 thermocouples K type with a compensated
cable of about 8 m.
The instrumentation is in a shed that during the night could reach some
centigrade below zero.

System:

PIII 450Mhz 256M of ram, W2k Professional (ita) SP3, LabView
6.1, FieldPoint Explorer 3.01

FP-1600 Ethernet firmware 3.20 cable connected FTP (UTP
shielded) at the PC with no other device connected with the net
(about 6 m connection length).

2 modules FP-AI-100 and one module FP-TC-120, a 24 V CC stabilized feeder.

Im asking if someone has already had similar problems and if the problems
could have a common cause (particularly on the 1 and 3 point)
Id like to know where searching for the solution:
In the instrumentations shield,
In the FieldPoint modules version
In the OPC server or other

Thank you so much,

Carlo,

I noticed that you posted this in the LabVIEW General forum. For future reference, you are more likely to get a response from fellow FieldPoint users if you post in the "Distributed I/O >> FieldPoint" forum.

1. Please contact your local NI Branch office to discuss the FP-1600; they should be able to help with that.

2. I'm not sure if I understand this question. Could you please restate it? I would also recommend reading the FieldPoint Software Working Basics tutorial to get a better understanding of how FieldPoint software works.

3. It sounds like you might be drawing some current with your thermocouples. We have written a knowledgebase that discusses this issue and how to avoid potential problems. When you read this document, check to see if any of the scenarios describes your situation.
