Error Code database.VI alternatives

I found Error Code Database.vi (in error.llb) and use it as shown in the attached VI.  However, the code (block diagram) is not available/visible, and for CM (and other) reasons, we'd like to replace that little VI with our own.  What do you recommend?

You can either write your own version of the locked VI or change your policy. I'm not sure why it's locked and a recent post to Info-LabVIEW says that 8.2.1 has 1080 locked VIs, but why not treat the locked VI just like all of the LabVIEW primitives (not the VI's) for which you don't have access to the source code?
