many thanks GerdW. I searched only from the ni.com, my bad. 

any idea on alternative reasons that can trigger this code when I have no close variable connection functions nearby? state machine architecture, close variable connection outside of state machine

Be careful in how you search.  If you search with the negative sign in front, then the search engine interprets the negative sign that you want to find things that DO NOT include that value. The exact opposite of what you want.  So when searching, always make the error value positive.
