Data manipulation

Hi, everyone,

My name is Zhi and I am working on my senior project. Right now, I want to get the reading from my sensor by using VISA serial reading function. From other posts in NI forum, I know that I have to data manipulation inorder to get proper reading. I am wandering if anyone can help with me because I have never done any data manipulation before in any programing language. Here below are my case:

The output data are from binary and VISA read function assume it to be string. I have manipulated this data in order to get the proper reading. Although the sensor manual tell the exact bit we need to read from the data. However, I really dont know how to do it in labview. I have attached the manual ( page 31).

Thanks you very much.

hello,
let me just make a question, and tomorrow i can do you an example.

You receive 2 bytes and you don't know how to get H-byte with L-byte, then concatenate both?

If this is the problem, reply this, and tomorrow I can do you the example. Tell me what's your labview version

Hi zhao.lin,

the attached pictures shows some ways how to get you single bits. Hope this helps.

You can rate answers if you have a minimum of 50 posts.

so, in your picture, you are showing me two ways of  converting the number the string to bits, right? ( I havent had a chace to try it now becuae i have class until 5 pm (pacific). I will let you if any progress I make. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I could not rate all your answer yet. Otherwise, all of your responds are extremely helpful. Thanks

PS: Without all the NI forum helps, I will fail my senior design project.

Thank you very much again.

hi, I have tried the method above, however, I get some huge number come up, which is not correct.  I have attached an screenshot and my VI, can anyone take a look at it ?

I think it is becuase I am not manipulating the data correctly. can anyone please check with my set up and compare with what they are telling me to do in the sensor manual , Page 31. Thanks.
