DLLs and Visual basic

I am trying to pass integers from a .vi to a Visual basic program. When I
use the examples given online it works fine using Build. You add the inputs
one by one. When I use my own .vi the '+' option is shaded out and I cannot
add inputs. However, if I copy the integers from the eamples and re-name
them it works fine! Do they have special properties or is this a bug? I use
LabView 7. The '+' option is an option in 'prototype' in Build by the way.

The only time I've seen the '+' greyed out is when the controls and indicators are not wired to the VI's connector pane. If that's not the problem, can you post a VI that demonstrates the problem?
