Compactlogix and labview communication

Hi there,

I have a small project (chiller with AB Compactlogix PAC which I would to communicate with).
It's simple monitoring (and couple of commands)...
Which form of physical (and protocol) communication would you recommend ... and why

Thanks in advance,

Hi jdownarzap2,

I was wondering if you could give us more information about your project. One good place to look would be the website for the AB Compactlogix PAC. From this site, it looks like you can communicate over Ethernet/IP, DeviceNET and ControlNET. However, you might be able to find more information about which would be the most appriopriate method for that specific device it that website. Ethernet would probably the easiest method but it really depends on your application and this specific device. I hope this helps!

What about RSlinx (as OPC server) and DataSocket (on the Labview side) over RS232 (with DF1 protocol) to 179-L31 PAC from Allen Bradley...

Does anybody used KepWare Server (instead of RSLinx)?

Hi jdownarzap2,

You can definitely use Datasocket or DSC to communicate with the OPC server. I also believe that you can use RSlinx to communicate with your Allen-Bradley device. There is a good knowledge-base article that talks about using the DF1 protocol that you might be interested in reading. I am including a good DeveloperZone article as well that talks about using the RSlinx OPC server. For more information about the pros and cons of communication methods for that specific device, I recommend you look on the Allen-Bradley website. I hope this helps!
