Can't install niDAQ 6.9.3 with Labview 8.0?

I'm trying to install the legacy drivers for my new/used DAQCard-1200 for use with Labview 8.0.  For reference, I've also installed Labview 8.2 evaluation.  I've downloaded both niDAQ and Labview 6.1 eng support and ran setup with it all in one directory.  The problem is that  the Labview 6.1 Support option has a green checkmark next to it and the description says it "won't be installed", that it is already installed and that the installed version is higher than what I'm trying to install.  Any suggestions?

Just to add to this, I'm running Windows XP and the OS always asks to install the driver for this PCMCIA card when I plug it in.  The measurement and automation explorer doesn't list the card either.

PCI 1200 (i did not know there was a pcmca version) is a legacy product which works only with NI-DAQ up to 6.9. as you installed a newer version of LV, you probably also installed a new version of NI-DAQ. now as i recall, even deinstallation is not enough. you have to clean totally the newer install of NI-DAQ, and then only install the legacy version.
i had this problem once, and remember several troubles. after several efforts, i heanded my computer over to the IT department, and they had to actually format the computer. i think this is a drastic solution, but it seems they didnt find a way out.
update me if after deinstallation you can work with the card.

Surely there is a better way than formatting and starting over...

Hello jackmaker,

First of all, welcome to the NI discussion forums! There are some other things to try before it  comes down to formatting your computer.  The reason you are seeing this behaivior is that the system is detecting a more recient version of the driver on your computer (which was probablly installed when you installed LabVIEW 8.0 or 8.2).

In order to use NI-DAQ 6.9.3, you will have to get rid of these later drivers. The trick is that you have to remove any other drivers that has dependancies on the version you currently have as well (e.g NI-DMM, or NIFGEN can have this kind of dependancy).  Give this a try and post back to let us know how it goes!

Thanks.  That is the knowledge base note that I was working off of.  The problem is that there weren't any NI-DAQ components to uninstall listed in the control panel.   So I couldn't remove any of the newer NI-DAQ driver bases.

I've probably completely messed up now, but I decided to perform an 'um' manual uninstall.  I deleted everything from the Program Files\National Instruments subdirectory.  I also went thought the registry, using regedt32, and removed all references to anything with "labview" or "national instruments".  After doing the later, I was able to install 6.9.3, but when I start Measurement & Automation explorer, it fails complaining that the "config" file is corrupt.  I deleted the file, re-ran Measurement & Automation, it rebuilt config, but still complains.  Re-installation of 6.9.3 didn't do any good.  I installed Labview 8.0 again, but didn't get anywhere with that.  I guess I can try installing NI-DAQmx again.

The basic problem is that that knowledge base note doesn't seem to cover a situation where the National Instruments software isn't listed in the control panel uninstallation list.  I'm still wondering why it wasn't listed there, but that's another question...

It's probably too late now but with the add/remove programs, you should have selected National Instruments Software. That lists all of the installed NI programs including Traditional NI-DAQ.

That's the problem.  Nothing was listed in Add/Remove programs for either National Instruments or Labview.

At this point I would recommend attempting to:

1) Make sure that National Instruments Software is not listed under Add/Remove Programs (and if it is, uninstall MAX and go from there). Should look something like this:

I don't mean to harp on this point, however it is very odd that the folder is not there at all...

2) Possibly use System Restore to revert back to a point before you 'manually uninstalled'

3) You could also try to use the Driver CD.  That should detect the software on the system and you may be able to remove/modify the software that way.

If this does not work, then we may have to work on this "offline" and have me contact you directly.  If you give me permission, I can get your contact information from our web team and we can go from there.

You may not have gotten everything during your manual clean up.  There may have been a c:\VXIPNP directory and a lot of files in c:\windows and it subdirectories (search for ni*.* (be sure to check that every found item is indeed a NI file).  Your reinstall may have gotten screwed up if the installer didn't overwrite a DLL it was supposed to because it was a newer version.

You will not be able to use 6.9.3 with DAQmx, as 7.0 was the first version to be supported by DAQmx.

I don't think NI will say LV 8.0 supports 6.9.3 because it was the version prioir to LV 8.0 release (when DAQmx was introduced).  That doesn't mean it won't work, though.

If you stand a chance of this working, you'll have to get the windows directory cleaned up.
