Can I open version 6 VI's running version 4?

I am running an older version of LabVIEW (version 4.0) and was wondering if there is a way for me to open VI's made using newer version (5.x or 6.x).

Hi

You cannot open VI's written with LV 5.x or 6.x in LV 4. You can open VI's from an older version in a newer version of LV, but not the other way round.

The only way to open a VI from one version in the previous one, is to use Save With Options and select the previous version to save in. This way, however, you can only go back one version. So, if you have a LabVIEW 6.x VI, you will be able to save it with options for LabIVEW 5.x. Unfortunately, the oldest version of LabVIEW that had this Save With Options option was 5.1. So, the furthers you could go from LabVIEW 6.0 is to LabVIEW 5.0. You will not be able to open a LabVIEW 5.0 VI in LabVIEW 4.0.

You cannot do this without prior preparation. In version 5.0 you should be able to save your VI's in version 4 format. Then you would be able to open them in 4. You probably would not be able to do this in version 5.1 and you definitely won't in version 6. LabVIEW is backwards compatible to only the previous major version to the one you are currently running. As an example, if you are currently running 6.1, you can save backwards to 6.0, but not 5.x. Version 6.0 will save backwards to 5.x, but not 4.x, etc.
I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it helps.

Thanks for the help! I figured that this was the case, but was hoping someone had found a way to convert VI's to older formats. Thanks anyway!
