Can DAQ device channel strings be either virtual channel names or default channel names

I am doing some maintenance on a legacy system using Labview 5.1 and the DAQCard-500.  I have two questions:

1) My question is whether the channel name string input to a vi like "AI Sample Channel" can be either the virtual channel name or the default channel name or instead if a virtual channel name exists in the daq configuration it must be used?


2) I am adding a pulse train output.  It does not seem that you can create a virtual "counter" name, at least the channel creation wizard does not have the dropdown selections.  Therefore I assume that I can just use the counter number (e.g. "1") as the input string to the "Generate Pulse Train" vi?

The channel Name string is not connected to the virtual channel name( if you have created one in MAX) and you can specify channel name that you wish to have for a AI sample channel
