This is probably the easiest, but another approach is to make an additional
couple plots that make up the grid. If using an XY graph, the grid is just
a data set that goes (X, Y0), (x, Ymax), (X+dX, Ymax), (X+dX, Y0), ...
You can generate the grid once in a loop and just append it to your data any
time you like.
